Worst Tour Ever

Well we always seem to play the best of game so I will give my 02 Cents :
1. Spring 92 --- Eked out first place by reason of being the only time the dead
absolutely stunk up Philly, and for 3 consecutive nights. Rest of tour was
lifeless with the only exceptions being above average shows on 3/9 at the cap
center, one night in Hamilton and a couple decent shows at Auburn HIlls. Hmm
maybe this should be second but the absolute stench of the Nassau and Philly
shows was/is unbearable.

2. Summer 94-- Highlight of this whole tour for me was Jerry playin Dear Mr
Fantasy with Traffic at Giants. Other highlites were few and far between. A
strong case couild be made to put this in the Number 1 slot.

3. Spring 94- A few highlites Richfield Lovelight>Stella>Lovelight, an
underated but still only an above average show 3/23/94 Nassau. The Dew
3/27/94. Atlanta 3/30. A big Lowlight--perhaps the worst set 2 ever--and
definately the worst I ever saw 3/25/94 with Bruce. Jerry was absolutely
lost/gone in set 2 and the whole band as WAYYYYYYYY off, the funny thing is set
1 was pretty good. 3/24/94 was also a total snoozer. Most of the tour the band
sounds very tired and disinterested.

I will note on a positive that I thought 93 was alot better than most folks
give it credit for with alot of good/great shows. Fall 94 was the last tour
with some super sparklers (perhaps to redeem the horrors of most of the rest of
the yr). I would also note that 95 had some big highlites and certainly had
some painful moments their also seemed to be alot more inspiration than 94.
YMMV Sjer

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had problems with Spring '92.
Actually, I'm thinking more of the June '92 Shoreline and Vegas runs.
Let's just say it didn't completely surprise me when I heard the news
of Jerry's health problems later that summer.

1. Spring 92 --
Yah, in that recent argument about Philly vs. Boston shows I said that Philly
had at least one outstanding show every year 'cept 1992. I think the show of
the tour was the 3/20 Ontario show. Yes, 3/9 was good, too. One of the
Hamptons was fun (New Speedway).

2. Summer 94--
Pretty weak, yes. Neither RFKs were the kind you write home about, for
starters.

3. Spring 94-
Both the Nassau shows were pretty cookin'. But, other than that...

There were some real nice shows in '93. And I agree that Fall '94, in
particular, had some real great ones: all the Cap Centres, all the LA shows,
first night Philly, that monster S>F at MSG (and some other nice MSGs, too).
Boston had a couple nice ones, too (but that 9/29 show making the rounds is a
drag).

10/5/94 Philly was the last great show I attended ---it also happened to be my
100th! Many highlightes but 2 of my all time personal favs Midnight
Hour>Cumberland to open 2 put me right over the top. Sjer

10/5/94 Philly was the last great show I attended -
Sjer:

Was that the night that they played a slow, dirge-like Friend of the Devil as
the second (or third) number of the first set?

Mercer and I arrived late for the show and consequently missed the parking lot
bazarr/madness as well as the first one or two songs... But, we sure did make
up for it with a real cornucopia of herbal delights and the last LIVE/IN PERSON
GD concert we ever had the pleasure of attending.

certainly not least) - John Jerome Garcia ("Uncle JOHNS' Band")

So do 3-17, 3-24, 5-16, 6-05, 6-26 and 9-13. '93 was definitely a
step up from the previous year.

Right on John I would only dispute 6/26 --6/25 was far better at RFK. Here's
some other good/great 93 shows : 3/16,4-2, 5/26, 6/22, 8/22, 9/22. My personal
fav is the above mentioned 9/13 but I'm way biased as I was 5th row dead
center (and well prepared for the show ;) Sjer

I dont know if it blows it away...the 6-23 Terrapin was certainly the
best of the summer, but 6-26 is great too. Real nice jam out of it.

This was by far, my favorite year being a deadhead. It was the first year
I'd ever done more of a tour, than just what came in a 100 mile radius. I
also dabbled in taping. What a whole new world that was. I loved it. It
added layers of appreciation for the Dead and it's scene. It had never been
more alive for me that year.

Hmm.. I enjoyed Chicago that year, as well as the Summer tour! For me that
was about the last peak of the GD before it all started to sour on me.

What I saw wasn't fun for me either. Worse was the Summer of '95 though, and
for me that would take #1. I suspect that will be the case for a lot of people
here.

That spring, i saw both the hamilton and Auburn Hills runs, and thought

I saw a lot of shows this summer, and they were all "eh". The
recordings of 7-13, 16 and 17 and 20 hold up pretty nice though. I
think the big issue where was the new FOH engineer couldn't mix a
stadium show worth spit, and the sound ...even dead center floor, was
ass most of the time.

I didn't think Spring '92 was all that bad either, but it sounds like I saw
some of the best shows of the run . (I saw all of the Landover, Philly
and Hamilton shows. ) I remember loving the Landover/Hamilton shows and
thinking Philly was incredibly mediocre. I didn't think they were
horrible though.

I'd almost say it varied song-by-song. One song could be terrific. The
next could be a train wreck. Some great moments in some relatively weak
shows.

You rolled the proper dice on that tour. I saw 1 average show in Landover 1
good show in landover and 3 clunkers in Philly-- A good buddy did 3 phillys and
all of the Nassaus and he swore off the dead forever---- of course it didn't

Yeah, Kinda late, I was born in 73. And Summer 2000 might have been as much
fun, but no GD.

As you can imagine, most of the shows that I thought were amazing turn out
to be kinda disapointing when I get and listen to them.
